Automated Domestic Irrigation System
Development of an domestic gardening solution.
Mini Project 2022
Project Overview
Domestic Gardening can be a time-consuming and labor-intensive task. It requires constant monitoring and regular human intervention due to the irregular irrigation cycles of different plants. This paper focuses on the development of the Automated Domestic Irrigation System (A.D.I.S) which helps mitigate the above drawbacks through the use of IoT-based automation systems. It is an automated watering solution that uses sensory feedback to detect and compensate for the drop in soil moisture levels. It is a system consisting of two modules powered by individual ESP 8266’s.The sensor unit consists of a soil moisture sensor that gauges the dielectric permittivity of the soil and sends the relevant sensor reading to the control unit. The control unit manages the actuation of the main irrigation valve based on the sensor readings obtained from the sensor unit. This system finds its uses in households practicing horticulture consisting of a heterogeneous mix of plant species that require multiple irrigation cycles to be maintained. A.D.I.S also lessens the involvement of human care and can thus be a viable solution for the elderly or for people with a busy work schedule.
